The 2013 NBA All-Star Weekend will be held in Houston, a city which is not known for its glitz and glamour. Although Houston is famous for its die-hard fans and always raucous stadium, it is not the ideal arena to help bolster the NBA’s reputation around the world.
The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, is currently undergoing renovation and by 2014 it will become a state-of-the-art facility. There is no better place to put the mid-season classic than in New York City. MSG has hosted the festivities four times prior, with the last coming in 1998.
There is no better city than New York to help the league gain more popularity. With perhaps one of the best season in recent memory occurring in 2010-2011, David Stern can assure those ratings will soar if he brings the All-Star Weekend to the Big Apple.
Reports have said the Knicks have applied for the gig in 2014, now let’s hope the 16-year drought will end for the people of New York.
