New York Knicks legend Patrick Ewing still has hopes of returning to the franchise. Ewing, who is currently an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic, wants a shot at the head coaching position; he was interviewed by the Detroit Pistons, but they decided to make Lawrence Frank the new head man.
Patrick Ewing told Mike Lupica, “I hope that one day I get to come back home because I do live in this area, I still consider this my area, I still consider myself a Knick. Hopefully one day I’ll be brought back here.”
Ewing also shot down the notion that a big man could not turn into a successful NBA coach. “People think that just because you’re a center, you’re not as smart as the guards or the smaller guys. I think that’s a load of crap. When I played with the Knicks, I was just as important or just as smart as any other of the guards I played with.”
The Knicks currently have Mike D’Antoni running the sidelines, but if things change Patrick Ewing would be a strong candidate for the job.
