New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony will open up a sports complex in the island of Puerto Rico. The Carmelo Anthony Foundation built the complex in Eastern Puerto Rico and children can now enjoy a brand new basketball court. This is the Foundation’s second sports complex in Puerto Rico, the first one coming in July 2010.
Although the complex does not have a roof, children often play basketball in the rain. “We’re working on putting a roof on both courts,” Anthony said.
Anthony, whose father was Puerto Rican, has constantly given back to the country. He is trying to keep his Puerto Rican roots alive and holds charity events in the nation regularly.
One a side note, Carmelo Anthony will not join Puerto Rico’s Men’s basketball team despite pleas to do so. Anthony has committed to the USA for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
