Knicks Defeat Denver Nuggets, Create Believers

The New York Knicks win over the Denver Nuggets should turn even the skeptics into believers, writes Stan Chin:

Two big streaks continued yesterday. The Knicks beat the Denver Nuggets 129-125 to extend their winning streak to eight games. And Amar’e Stoudemire broke the Knicks team record with his 8th straight game scoring 30 or more.

Are you a believer yet?

One of the biggest criticisms the Knicks have had to endure is:

Who have you beaten?

They were 2-4 against teams with winning records, and only 1 team in the 8 game winning streak had a winning record and the New Orleans Hornets were missing David West (I don’t really care about the West injury because teams will always have injuries, or players not playing 100%. Did the Knicks’ win over Detroit count for double because Raymond Felton had the flu and Toney Douglas was injured? If one starts qualifying wins and losses, no one would have a record of any kind).

Now they have beaten two teams with winning records in the winning streak with the wire to wire win yesterday [Editor's Note: the Denver Nuggets did take a slight lead at various points, so it wasn't quite a wire-to-wire win, but that's neither here nor there].

Some important stats in the game:

-As mentioned above, congratulations to Amar’e Stoudemire for his 8th game of 30 or more, despite 2nd half foul trouble and an early technical.

-One turnover in the second half, none in the 4th quarter

-19 points and a season high 17 assists for Felton.

-Landry Fields with 18 points and 9 boards

-Wilson Chandler with 27 points including 5-9 from 3 point range

-Knicks out shot the Nuggets in FG% 52.3%-50.3%, FT% 92.3%-85% and 3PtFG% 43.3% to 33.3%

Today’s game was the first game in a brutal 14 game stretch with 11 teams with a winning record.
