Gallinari gets some praise from Coach D'Antoni

Time to Elevate

Gallinari has played minimal minutes for the Knicks so far, but that didn’t stop Coach D’Antoni from speaking out on the back bothered forward.

“He’s the best shooter I’ve ever seen,” D’Antoni said.

Now most wouldn’t give this much thought, but as I read through that I was a little surprised. D’Atoni has been a coach on the U.S. National Olympic team, and comes across tons of pure shooters in the NBA, but Gallinari is the best in his eyes.

I found that to be very enticing and hope this is indeed true. Gallinari has a high ceiling, much higher then most expect. Was he the right pick? No, but having Gallinari might be a big piece come next season when the Knicks dive into free agency. Gallinari’s shot will be seen much more this season if he can stay healthy and I know myself and the Knicks nation will be all over Gallinari and his play each game. He has a lot of potential, but must produce on the court and elevate his defense. If he develops his defense and rebounding Gallinari could be a fantastic player.

But you know, that’s the thing with this kid. He was a reach of a pick and was seen as a dynamic but really raw talent from Europe. Every report I’ve read on Galinnari reeks of “What If’s”.

This season Gallinari has to step up and be a big contributor not only on the offensive side of things, but on the defensive end as well. I’m not sold on this kid, and would have much rather have taken Gordon in his spot, but that’s the past and he’s the present. I believe in this kid, but he must prove to me he wants to be a great player, and doesn’t want to be a one-dimensional role player because that’s not what the Knicks need. They need Gallinari to flourish for this fanbase to regain faith in Walsh.

Less talking, more doing.
